“If you didn’t prepare enough then you’re right to give yourself a bit of a hiding on the way home.” BRENDAN GLEESON
As part of the brilliant ‘Bow Street Meets‘ series brought to you by Dublin based Bow Street Academy For Screen Acting, the multi award winning Irish actor of stage and screen (with 3 Golden Globe nominations) BRENDAN GLEESON shared these illuminating audition tips:
You should be prepared. There’s no excuse! Learn your lines. You have to dedicate yourself to that completely.
And what about getting over the knock-backs;
If you didn’t prepare enough then you’re right to give yourself a bit of a hiding on the way home. But if you did prepare and it would’ve been a great version of that character… it just might not be in that film. That’s all you can do with auditions is just hammer them as much as you can. A lot them will already be decided anyway. Don’t give yourself a hard time about stuff you can’t help. Don’t always insist it was your fault. If you are prepared and you’re in the zone…and you give a good reading…usually you’re right for the part or you’re not in the directors mind and you just have to respect it.
