“Performing Arts should reflect the world – not be dominated by a narrow set of people from well-off backgrounds.” TOM WATSON
Speaking to the Performers’ Alliance All Party Parliamentary Group, and subsequently reiterated in a sponsored Facebook Ad, Labour MP Tom Watson expressed his belief in the value of diversity in the arts:
The performing arts represents the UK to the world, and it should reflect the world – not be dominated by a narrow set of people from well-off backgrounds.
That’s why I commissioned the Acting Up report, with Labour colleagues Gloria DePiero and Tracey Babin. Fantastic career opportunities should be accessible to everyone, no matter where they come from or what they look like.
Couldn’t agree more, Tom.
