Jake Gyllenhaal re-lives the time Peter Jackson told him he was the ‘worst actor he’d ever seen’
If you’re currently having a tough time on the audition circuit, just remember even Hollywoods ‘A’ list actors get it rough sometimes.
Speaking on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon this week, Jake described the time The Lord of the Rings director PETER JACKSON branded him the “worst actor he had ever seen” during an audition for the role of Frodo in the trilogy.
“He literally turned to me and said, ‘You are the worst actor that I have ever seen’,” Gyllenhaal recalled. “He said, ‘Did anyone tell you you were supposed to have an accent?’ I was like, ‘No!’ and he said, ‘Well, fire your agents’.”
“So I went in to read for it, and I remember going into this room and there was a lot of stage directions – we didn’t have any lines to say, really it was just like finding the ring and you are supposed to open the thing and there is a ring there…”
“And I remember I didn’t really do it because I didn’t really understand – because there were no lines – so I walked up and sort of opened it up and was like: Was that good?”
Gyllenhaal also missed out on Batman to Christian Bale and Spider-Man to Tobey Maguire. Just goes to show, if at first you don’t succeed….
