ANDY SERKIS reveals his method behind playing an ape. WOW!

Ever since his groundbreaking work creating Gollum for Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings, ANDY SERKIS has become the go-to actor for big budget motion capture projects.

In this clip from the New York Times, the master of physical and vocal transformation lifts the veil on his method and reveals how he began to create CGI character Caesar in the unanimously revered special effects triumph Planet Of The Apes.

Vocally we wanted him to sound non-human. It involved slowing the speech down and allowing more time between the connection of thought and voice.

I also wanted Ceasar to have a very low centre of gravity so I wore extremely heavy weights on my ankles and wrists so that there was always this physical tension.
